Saracens 43 Hitchin 2nds 17
Crusaders score six tries to boost their points difference.
Saracens Crusaders are currently sixth in the Hertfordshire Middlesex merit table two, playing one less game than the top five. Apart from the narrow disappointing defeat to Bishop's Stortford, the team have put in solid performance, leading to have the second best points difference within the league.
The match on Saturday didn’t disappoint. In the first half the Crusaders kept the game tight, with the ball only reaching the wings once or twice. The forwards kept recycling the ball and with the help of James B, continuously broke the gain line. The first try came from recovering the kick off, punishing Hitchin for their mistake. Josh scored leading to a five point lead. Josh also scored the second try doubling the advantage to ten. Two penalties later the lead was up to sixteen. Ross scored the first of his try’s next before Hitchin scored the first of their points after the Crusaders go down to fourteen men. Ross scores his second try of the game, increasing the lead to twenty five points. Hitchin respond and score their second try.
Half time thirty to ten.
Throughout the second half, the Crusaders looked a different team. The backs saw a lot more ball with both wingers Gonzalo and Illies making dominant line breaks. Gonzalo was rewarded later in the half after converting a team try, the structure put in place by the coaches clearly working. Ross almost brought the post-match drinks, a line break thirty five meters out, Nathanael running alongside in support, an easy two on one converted. The final points were awarded by the ref in the form of a penalty try. Hitchin up to seventeen points.
The Crusaders next match is away to Datchworth 2nds to be played on the 28th of this month.
