London & SE Division - Herts/Middlesex 2

Amazing performance cost Feltham their unbeaten record.

by Dom Smart

Saracens record an extremely impressive win against a side previously unbeaten for two seasons.

Saracens travelled to top of the table Feltham, intent on continuing their first half form from the previous week. A number of injuries to regular players during the week were covered and shown the true strength in depth of the squad. It was true credit to the boys who stepped up and played out of position, including a try scoring back row winger!

The game kicked off with great intensity. Both teams defending and attacking well. Saracens dealt with Feltham's strong runners very effectively with excellent defensive work from Jamie 'One Arm' Connolly and Jamie 'Gun Show' Leven. Right from the start the Saracens pack worked tirelessly to keep the ball going forward and recycling it efficiently. Saracens struck first with a penalty, taken well by Jack 'You Cannot Be Serious Ref!' Goldberg.

However, as would set the tone for the rest of the game, Feltham responded extremely quickly and levelled the score after a period of pressure. The first half also saw the teams swap tries. Some excellent work of the Saracens pack, supported by some slick hands from the Saracens backs led to Connor 'Winger In A Prop's Body' Reddington to sprint over in the corner.

Feltham returned the favour, and another exchange of penalties saw the games definitely in the balance at 13-13 going into the half time break.

The second half was equally as close. The first 20 minutes again saw an exchange of tries with Andrew 'Mysterious Carpet Burns' Bullmore going over, following a great forward drive and, as is becoming a real strength for the team, a really slick line out.

However, following a sin binning for Adam '7!' Peters, for reasons only known to the referee, Feltham had an extended period of pressure leading to two additional tries and, as it seemed to the home side, 'An easy victory'. This was not to be the case.

Saracens rallied and piled on the pressure. Hamish 'Lewis Moody' Daniel, who did very well playing out of position all game went over in the corner and gave Saracens the incentive they needed to push for the win. The following two passages of play we're exceptional from Saracens. The pack created a great platform tine and time again, and the back were hitting great lines and getting over the gain line. This resulted, in the last minute of the game, with Captain Dom 'One Leg' Smart rounding the full back and going over in the corner.

The overall performance was exceptional. It's critical that Saracens build on this and develop the consistency required to push for promotion.

Best comeback since JC! Fantastic bottle, great skill & supreme effort from everyone! Huge thanks to the Kelly boys for coming back from Uni, delighted that no-saw fit to give Smiler DOTD for turning up to a rugby match without boots as it would have been churlish on such a day! I trust that the Judge made it back safely after his night of debauchery with his ex-teamates? Thank heavens we have two weeks off to enjoy smiling from ear to ear remembering the silence of their supporters after the match! Thank you all seventeen of you!
