Sarries smash The Valley and Crusaders put in a performance to be proud of!

by Dom Smart

Another comprehensive win keep Saracens in the promotion race, while the Crusaders put up an heroic fight at Hendon.

The weather was kind enough to allow the first game for a couple of weeks to take place at Bramley Road, and even though feeling slightly rusty, Saracens we able to cobble together an effective performance that was too much for Chess Valley to handle.

Even though occasionally under pressure, the Saracens set pieces were excellent, and created an excellent platform for the backs to thrive and cause all sorts of problems for the opposition backs. Strong running from the forwards, coupled with strong defence saw the score line gradually increase. Michael Scrace, on his return from injury, dotted down twice and hit a number of conversions and penalties in difficult conditions. Jamie Connolly also secured a brace with some great pace and footwork. Mark Lawson was rewarded for his great running with an amazing 60m solo effort. Michael Cawthorn and Tom Weir also got in on the act finishing off a great team build up on both occasions.

Next week, the boys travel to London Welsh, for a promotion showdown, which has been rearranged on a number of occasions. The boys can be confident, based on recent results, that if they bring their A Game, the result will be positive.

The Crusaders travelled to very muddy Hendon for their match. Unfortunately, numbers were low and the game was played without a full team. In spite of this, Crusaders managed to hold a score line of 5:3 to the 50th minute before Hendon were able to find a chink in the defence and score 3 breakaway tries. Final score 20-3. Each member of the Team gave 110% and should be proud of their performance.
